Engraved keepsakes > Info Center > Musical instrument engraving Musical instrument engravingThe engraving of musical instruments has two major outlooks. The first is that of desecrating the instrument. Many people believe that altering a musical instrument in any way, form or fashion is wrong, as it is taking away from the artist that originally created the instrument. This point of view might have held water back in early times when all instruments were slowly and monotonously hand crafted by true instrument artists, but times have changed. Today, machines create instruments; all crafted in the same manner by the same computer driven technology. With this in mind, we can see that the actual act of turning any musical instrument into a work of art is ultimately in the hands of the owner of the instrument now. This can be done through the art of engraving.
Engraving is an age old art, but can be used by even the least talented individuals to turn an instrument into a true work of modern art. This act of artistically enhancing an instrument has many possibilities, beyond the normal scope that one would consider. The days of finding a guitar or any other instrument with a price tag of three hundred dollars and being thrilled about it are gone. With the technological/industrial revolution, you can find most instruments fewer than one hundred dollars. This has truly depreciated that actual value of instruments. The clever artist, however, can take one of these cheap instruments and raise the value considerably. This is done via engraving. Take the guitar for instance. Let us say that you find a guitar at a yard sale for fifty dollars. You buy it, take it home, and clean it up. Then, you take your wood burning kit or engraving kit and create a cool design or landscape scene on it. You can then turn it around and sell it at triple what you paid for it. This is a great and original new concept for turning a fast buck and making an everyday object into a work of art. Musical instruments than can be engraved: Guitar
