Concrete Engraving

The average individual has largely overlooked the process of concrete engraving, largely due to the fact that most people don’t even know what it is? Simply put, it is a process that can make a boring simple concrete drive, porch, foundation, or sidewalk into a beautiful aspect to your home or yard. Of course, one would think that a sidewalk is just a sidewalk and making it anything beyond that would be difficult without investing in accents such as flowers, wood liners, or stone liners. Actually, making your plain blue-collar looking concrete structure look amazing requires about the same amount of time as all that and little more investment.

Concrete engraving is the process of etching a particular design into the concrete itself. Usually the cobblestone look or brick appearance is the most popular. It doesn’t require that you lay new concrete. Regardless of the age, any concrete will work. An older concrete structure actually adds an antique-like look to the final work.

The process begins with a simple cleaning to remove all the dirt and grime that has built up on the surface. After that, a basic stain is applied for whatever particular design you want. If it is a cobblestone look, a variety of colors and hues may be applied. After the stain is given a day or so to dry, the actual engraving is done. Then, another cleaning is done to remove any excess dust from the engraving process. At this point you will be excited and in a hurry to see the final process, but do not overlook that final cleaning. It is extremely important and will affect the overall look of your project. Next, a sealer is applied, allowed to dry, and voila, your new surface!

If you are fixing up an old home or flipping real estate for a living, this is a sure method to raise the value of the home quickly and affordably. There are likely many concrete engravers in your area, but if not, the process is fairly simple and easy to learn.
